Primer Coat: A car may get several primer coats. This is the base for the final coats but also protects the body. In some case a primer coat will be applied to help correct further inperfection. In this case the cadillac was painted with a glossy black primer, this in order to expose, to see the smallest of imperfections, imperfections that most body shops would ignore and just finish the job. Since this is a meseum piece, nothing less than perfection is accepted.
